Opening of Grasgarth House

On Wednesday the 21st September 2005, Captain K Chandran, MBE, the Chairman of Inquilab Housing Association, Kate Davies, Chief Executive of Notting Hill Housing Group and Darra Singh OBE, Chief Executive of Ealing Council, will officially open Grasgarth House a scheme that provides affordable homes for local people.

Grasgarth House is a newly converted scheme with a total of 11 flats that was once the location of the Territorial Army centre. This former mansion house – built around the turn of the 20th century has been retained and beautifully restored by Markstone Construction and converted into private homes.

The scheme has been developed by Notting Hill Housing Group on behalf of Inquilab HA. This development is the affordable housing element of a larger scheme by Wimpey Homes known as Springfield Square.

Captain Kandiah ChandranCaptain K Chandran, MBE, said “Progress is not only about meeting targets, we take care not to lose sight of the housing need, social exclusion and disadvantages we are here to tackle – not alone, but with the support of residents, partners such as Notting Hill Housing Trust, the Council and our stakeholders, all of whom are important to our work”

Kate Davies said "Notting Hill is proud of its work with Inquilab to rehabilitate this historic building to benefit families in need.”

Darra Singh, OBE “I cannot stress enough how crucial these sorts of schemes are. Access to high quality affordable homes is a right everyone should have but this is sometimes not the case. It is important that we all continue to work together and tackle these issues head on, giving all our communities the opportunities they deserve.”

Steve Douglas, Deputy Chief Executive of the Housing Corporation said: "I am delighted that we have worked in partnership with Notting Hill Housing Group, Inquilab and LB Ealing, investing over £1.4m social housing grant in the development of 11 new high quality flats for local people. We have recently renewed our commitment to supporting the role of BME housing associations through our new BME action plan. Developments such as Grasgarth House demonstrate the importance of successful partnership working in ensuring that the role of BME associations is fully recognised and developed across the housing sector and we are committed to taking this agenda forward".
